Learn the basics of night sky photography in the Los Padres!
Get ready for the summer Milky Way season in the Los Padres National Forest (LPNF)! This presentation will give you everything you need to know to photograph the Milky Way and other night sky treasures in the LPNF with your DSLR or mirrorless camera.
Aimed at those who are brand new to nightscape photography as well as seasoned veterans, you’ll learn:
- Fundamentals of photographing the Milky Way, the moon, meteor showers, constellations and more
- All about night photography gear & how to set it up
- Recommended night photography camera and exposure settings
- How to successfully focus and compose in the dark
- How to stay safe and comfortable late at night
- Best practices to minimize your impact to the night environment.
A great way to learn how to enjoy the LPNF’s wonderful night skies!
Any and all Donations will go to our Trail Care Fund, helping to maintain the trails of the Los Padres National Forest.
This event will be held virtually, via ZOOM. ZOOM meeting access will be included in your event registration confirmation email. Please plan to join the event 10 minutes early if you are newly downloading ZOOM to allow you to test your audio and camera settings.
About Dr. Shaw:
I’m a professional photographer, author and teacher who specializes in nightscapes and time-lapses. My passion and mission is to help you discover new ways to create incredible images and video clips of the night sky - ones that you’ll be excited to share with your family and friends. Some of the skills you’ll learn include Milky Way photography, moon photography, time-lapses, star trails and more.
With more than thirty years of experience as a professional photographer and teacher of thousands of students, I have the background, knowledge and understanding to teach you night photography on your terms.
